Throughout the life of the installation, the number of shedded items pinned to the curtain grows. Upon conclusion the artists ceremonially burn that which was left behind.

  • A two-week interdisciplinary arts project using mask, garment and photography to build young women’s self-confidence, at the age of puberty and transitioning to secondary school.

“I can’t believe my daughter did all this!” – A surprised Mum who discovered her daughter’s talent.

The participants were girls 10-13 years of age with parents subject to immigration control by the Home Office. Given the pressures these girls faced, the increased exposure to messaging objectifying the female body at this age, and the physical and school changes they experienced, we offered them an opportunity to celebrate their super-powers and what they were good at. They translated these strengths into masks and garments which they then cat-walked in a fashion show for friends and family. Their creations were subsequently publicly exhibited for a month.
